The St. Clement of Rome PK2 program (SCR Early Learning Center) is designed to meet the needs of two-year-old children in a positive, nurturing, Catholic environment, where each child's growth and development will be fostered by caring faculty and staff members. Our program is licensed by the state of Louisiana as a Type I child-care center.
The children participate in hands-on activities where they learn through exploration and play. The curriculum creates enthusiasm for learning and builds socialization and school readiness skills, while fostering a love of God and others.
The PK2 program includes age-appropriate religion activities, art, music, physical education, library time, and foreign language exposure. It provides the children with various developmental needs and experiences.
All materials are aligned with national and state standards. The program follows the regular school calendar. The children attend school Monday-Friday from 7:55 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Before and After Care are available as well. Parents are asked to supply daily snack and lunch, as well as all other necessities (diapers, wipes, napmats, etc.) It is our privilege to work with parents in the education of their children!
The Pre-K 3 Program follows the St. Clement of Rome Mission Statement and Philosophy. Our teachers and assistants fulfill these in a loving, caring, and attentive environment. We wish to foster a positive learning environment, encouraging the development of your child's self-image within his/her family, church, school, and community. Development of the whole child is expressed spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Children are encouraged to play and work cooperatively in small groups. Opportunities for individual work are present during child-directed activities fostering independence and initiative. Children will be carefully monitored and observed to assess developmental ability.
Pre-K 3 Curriculum consists of:
5th Grade
The United States: Making a New Nation - Harcourt
6th Grade
Horizons World History - Harcourt
7th Grade
United States History - Holt McDougal
Middle School Social Studies covers the topics from world history which include past events and the people who were part of those events. In addition, we learn about current events and the history of the United States of America. We do projects such as dioramas and murals portraying the Native American culture and classroom activities creating landforms using cookies. We also participated in democracy week during the election and had guest speakers David Vitter and Jennifer VanVrancken come speak to the students about the process of voting.
All students at SCR start each Spanish class by praying in Spanish. According to their grade level, they will begin by learning the Sign of the Cross and Our Guardian Angel prayer. Fourth grade and middle school will also learn the Hail Mary and Our Father prayers. Positive reinforcement and the use of positive words like "muy bien", "excelente" and "maravilloso" are a theme throughout our school.
Prek-2 to Kindergarten learn vocabulary and simple commands of the Spanish language through the use of music, books, games and projects. A loving, fun and active environment awaits them when they come to Spanish class, and they look forward to dancing and singing while learning Spanish.
Grades 1st to 4th will continue the fun of learning through music and games while adding a writing element to their curriculum. Students will explore the Spanish language by learning the alphabet in Spanish and how to pronounce each letter. They will also learn how to write vocabulary words from units like "House", "Family" and "School". Holidays and traditions of Latin American countries and Spain are learned throughout the year depending on the season.
Middle school will use the knowledge learned in earlier years as a base to enhance their grammar exercises and conversation abilities. The use of the promethean board and internet is added to the curriculum during middle school. Our students will also use our technological resources to study the language and culture of Latin American countries and Spain, and they will demonstrate an understanding of the language and the concept of culture through comparisons of the student's own language and culture.
